Imaginary City 2023

The magic and fantasy return to Gaiás: Imaginary City is back! On 9 September we say goodbye to summer in style, with the company of jugglers, trapeze artists, tightrope walkers, acrobats, clowns, and fabulous, fantastic characters of all kinds, who return to fill every corner of the City of Culture with fun.

Travel with us to amazing worlds in a Saturday full of circus, theatre, music, brain teasers, and large-scale installations. A completely free program outdoors that will transport the entire family to dream worlds. There will be about 20 companies in total – coming from Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Valencia, Catalonia, Madrid and Galicia – with other leisure activities proposals throughout the day, from 11 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.

The Gaiás will hold performances from new circus, clown, jugglers and spectacular choreographies with aerial acrobatics to take your breath away. Fun travelling performances, a school of acrobats for children, a kite exhibition, traditional ability games, and a sensory space for children from 0 to 3 years of age complete this offer of family leisure of the Imaginary City in which, in addition, resting areas will be set up featured with food and drink stands for lunch and afternoon snacks.

Imaginary City

Hosted between 2011 and 2019, Imaginary City is one of the classic dates of the children’s programme at the Gaiás, bringing together thousands of families over its eleven previous editions. After the COVID-19 break in 2020, the event returns in full force in 2023 in a full-day format with numerous spectacles which will take place in different spots outside the Cidade da Cultura.
