Outro e sobre si | Andrés Rodís

Outro e sobre si is a project by Santiago de Compostela-born artist Andrés Rodís, developed as part of the first edition of the ArtLab IGFAE | REGA Residency between February and April 2026. The works presented by Andrés Rodís in this exhibition stem from research into structures of duplicity within painterly practice through an interdisciplinary dialogue with quantum physics.

The exhibition delves into the concept of superposition and explores new avenues for artistic practice, inviting visitors to share in the artist's pursuit of the boundaries and edges of the artwork, as well as his exploration of the particle, astroparticle, and nuclear physics research and experiments carried out at the Instituto Galego de Física de Altas Enerxías (IGFAE).

Comprising 25 pieces—including mixed-technique paintings, collages, digital prints, and a video projection—the exhibition originated during Andrés Rodís's residency at the IGFAE facilities and the City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela, where he explored the latent potential of everyday objects.

Visitors can enjoy free entry to the exhibition at Gaiás Centre Museum through January 10, 2027.

Breaking with classic notions of duplicity

Conversations with IGFAE researchers, time spent in the Institute’s nuclear and quantum research labs and the Radiophysics Laboratory of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, alongside engagement with concepts such as Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, the double-slit experiment, and Karen Barad’s perspectives on scientific epistemology, provided the inspiration for Outro e sobre si.

In the artist's own words, this approach "does not seek a metaphorical, analogical, or illustrative correspondence between quantum physics and art, given that each field operates within its own specific language and knowledge base. Instead, readings, dialogues, images, and practices created an intermediate space of reception where those distinct areas of knowledge could intersect, giving rise to a series of works that, like an atlas, remain continuously open."
