Astronomical visits - 2012

Discover the magic of stars and the nights in Compostela from the City of Culture.

The City of Culture offers the ideal setting to explore the “skies of Compostela” during summer nights. Last year's edition was warmly welcomed by the public, so once again this year Mount Gaiás will host sessions on astronomical observation. Since the outdoor areas are now completed, especially the plaza, this is an enhanced opportunity to enjoy star gazing and architecture at the same time.Using telescopes, binoculars and planispheres, and following the technical explanations by the facilitators, participants may behold planes such as Jupiter and Mercury, or curious phenomena such as twin stars.Besides, special sessions will be organized, such as the “Night of the Perseids”, to enjoy in August the shower of stars popularly known as “the tears of Saint Lawrence”. At the same time, ther will be three workshops about sun clocks, telescopes and meteorites. These night visits will enable visitors to learn about the least known and most mysterious face of the City of Culture.
